The number of closed single-family home sales rose more than 30 percent in January 2013 in Seattle compared with a year earlier, topping the national average of a gain of about 12 percent.
According to a new report by Seattle-based online real estate company Redfin, there were 2,604 home sales in January, up 30.9 percent above January 2011 but down 22.3 percent from December.
In Seattle, the median home sold for $150 per square foot in January, up 11.6 percent from a year earlier but down 4.7 percent in December. Nationally, the median home sold for $177 per square foot in January, up 10.1 percent for the year but down 2.5 percent from December.
There were 6,692 active listings in Seattle in January 2013, down 44.5 percent from a year earlier and down 0.7 percent from December. Nationally, there was a 33.4 percent drop in the number of homes for sale in January compared with a year earlier.
